Peaches, White Wine and Vanilla Bean Ice Cream

white wine

It's hot outside. I wanted to bake something for you but I just can't bring myself to turn on the oven. I don't know about you but we don't have central air conditioning and our little window models just aren't performing in this heat.

Just because there's a little heat wave doesn't mean we need to give up on homemade dessert, right? So long as it's cool and refreshing - it's wonderful.

peaches and wine

At a farm I recently visited, I filled a brown paper bag with peaches. There's something about peaches that are so cool and summery. When I got them home I sliced them up and splashed them with a little white wine.

I found a nice big glass and filled it with a scoop of homemade vanilla bean ice cream, the wine soaked peaches and a pile of fresh whipped cream. Refreshing and delicious. Perfect for a heat wave.

Vanilla Bean Ice Cream

3 cups heavy cream
3/4 cup sugar
2 teaspoons vanilla extract
1 vanilla bean, contents scraped out and set aside

Gently heat the cream and sugar until the sugar dissolves. Remove from heat and add the vanilla and vanilla bean contents. Refrigerate until cold. Pour into an ice cream machine and churn according to manufacturers instructions. Freeze.

How's the temperature where you live? Are you baking?
And don't forget to stop by and visit me for my latest escapade. Stay cool.

Bon appetit!

Oh yum, I don't need a baked dessert to satisfy my sugar cravings! Your fresh fruit and white wine dessert looks absolutely divine! I don't know why but I really like markets where fruit and veg are sold in brown paper bags! lol

I like that this recipe doesn't include eggs. Wine soaked peaches sound so divine, and a good source of relief from the sweltering heat.

J'adore your photographs. Your recipe is so elegant, and I'm also staying out of the kitchen!

I grew up in a German whine growing area. We soak everything in wine, delicious.
Cooler weather around Denver today. I made a spicy Posole.

Oh, such goodness,
just what ones dreams about on a summer day!

The weather here is splendid right now, after a very hot humid beginning, we are enjoying something like New England summer weather. At least how I imagine it to be, blue cloudless sky, temperatures in the low eighties, low humidity.

Wishing you many beautiful summer days,
Merisi

Looks yummy El! I've been indulging in ice cream on a nightly basis lately. Maine Blueberry is my sin of choice ; )

I did turn the oven on last night to cook pizzas but mostly my husband has been grilling. Not to hot out this morning but the humidity is brutal!

The farm has GREAT recipes!

Ir's incredulously hot up here, but I'm still baking. I figure that the oven can't warm the house that much.

I've done wine drenched cherries before, but not wine drenched peaches. Sounds Yummy!

Oh, you and I think alike! We want to bake things, even when it's hot outside! But that ice cream with the peaches looks heavenly! The photos- outstanding!

It's been over 100 degrees F in the DC area, but I still insisted on baking for my last day at work as a thank you to my friends there. It was definitely a furnace up in here and I would've been tempted to make this instead had I seen it in time! It looks so delightfully refreshing.

So I made this last night, but with champagne instead of white wine (we were in a celebratory mood). Still delish! Thanks for the inspiration :) :)

Beautiful shot and a wonderful luscious and simple dessert; if I told you we get crates of peaches from our orchard weekly and I am going nuts trying to consume them in imaginative ways! it is overwhelming! Thanks to you I can make this! Love the vanilla ice-cream with no eggs too, bet it tastes so pure.

Hope you are staying cool El! I have rarely left my airconditioned bedroom after work! I think the best summer desserts are simple, fruity ones like this. Looks great!

I love fresh fruit and haven't had peaches in a while now (not in season in Brazil until the end of the year).
What a wonderful combination of flavors!

This is such a simple, effective dessert! Stone fruits in season really don't need a lot of work to taste good and I really like the white wine+peach combo. What type of wine did you use?
